NEA and NTU to develop S$40m waste-to-energy research facility [News]

The National Environment Agency (NEA) and Nanyang Technological University signed an agreement on Wednesday (July 13) to co-fund the development of a S$40 million waste-to-energy research facility.

This facility will be an open platform that will allow researchers and companies working on emerging waste-to-energy technologies to demonstrate and test-bed their projects, they said.

NTU scientists create toilet which turns poo into electricity [News]

Scientists from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) have developed a new toilet system that converts human waste to electricity and fertiliser.

Dubbed the “No-Mix Vacuum Toilet”, the system has two chambers which separate liquid and solid wastes.

It also reduces the amount of water needed for flushing by up to 90 per cent, compared to current toilet systems in Singapore.

“Singapore has been relatively clean over the last few decades, but we can still improve a little bit,” associate professor Wang Jing-Yuan, Director of NTU’s Residues and Resource Reclamation Centre, said.

2011 R3C International Symposium: New Developments in Waste Management [Events]

R3C (Residues and Resource Reclamation Centre) is organizing the 2011 R3C International Symposium: New Developments in Waste Management. The symposium will be held on 14 and 15 November at the Nanyang Executive Centre (NEC) of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

Eleven overseas and 11 local experts will share various topics on waste management in the two-day symposium. The symposium intends to provide a platform for industries, government agencies, and research institutions to exchange global waste management information.
