NEA to study disposable packaging’s environmental impact [News]

A study to assess disposable packaging for takeaway food or dining in, and single-use carriers, was called by the National Environment Agency on Wednesday (Aug 24).

To better inform its policies on the use of disposable packaging, NEA will be conducting a study to analyse how different packaging materials commonly used for food compare in terms of cost and impact on the environment, it said in its press release.

Packaging of consumer products to be regulated [News]

To cut waste in Singapore, the Government will put into effect mandatory requirements on the packaging of consumer products within the next three to five years, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli said yesterday.

Once this is implemented, companies might have to report and publish their mandatory packaging waste reduction plan, and to meet packaging requirements and standards as well as recycling targets.

NEA and NTU to develop S$40m waste-to-energy research facility [News]

The National Environment Agency (NEA) and Nanyang Technological University signed an agreement on Wednesday (July 13) to co-fund the development of a S$40 million waste-to-energy research facility.

This facility will be an open platform that will allow researchers and companies working on emerging waste-to-energy technologies to demonstrate and test-bed their projects, they said.
