Poll on Plastic Bag Charge – Volunteer signup to conduct interview

Poll on Plastic Bag Charge – Volunteer signup to conduct interview

Zero Waste SG is planning to crowdsource a public poll on plastic bags charge in Singapore. We are looking for 100 volunteers to conduct a short interview with customers at supermarkets. Each volunteer is expected to interview only 10 people at the supermarket location of their choice. If you are interested, pls sign up at http://goo.gl/forms/xxxR1BEBKbNVhLvh2 and we will get back to you soon. Thanks!

The tentative survey questions include:

  • Supermarket Name and Location
  • Gender and Age
  • Housing Type
  • Brought own reusable bag or own trolley?
  • If there is a 10 cents charge for each plastic bag, would you reduce the plastic bags that you take?
  • If there is a 10 cents charge for each plastic bag, would you bring your own reusable bags?
  • Would the 10 cents charge per plastic bag add to your financial burden?
  • What do you think is a reasonable charge for plastic bags?

why not publicly poll directly? then you can correct additional results; and we can reach our friends; is this considered as biased? how can we make sure that the interviewed people are telling the truth. the best would be a trial I’m one supermarket…

    here my response:
Supermarket Name and Location: fairprice extra, kallang wave
    Gender and Age: male, 36-45
    Housing Type: private
Brought own reusable bag or own trolley? yes
If there is a 10 cents charge for each plastic bag, would you reduce the plastic bags that you take? yes
If there is a 10 cents charge for each plastic bag, would you bring your own reusable bags? yes
Would the 10 cents charge per plastic bag add to your financial burden? no
What do you think is a reasonable charge for plastic bags? totally ban plastic bags; provide ecological friendly bags

We prefer to speak to supermarket shoppers directly

what are we expecting to get out of the poll? the verdict is quite clear that singapore is generating too much of plastic waste. A report shows of 3billions plastics for 5million of population that is a whopping 600 plastic bags per person per year.

if any action can generate action to prompt government to ban use of plastic bags i am keen, however, it must be highly effective.
I just dont think the poll will make any difference, a more direct push to the NEA and SEC is what is needed !

I agree with Kaye. I do not understand why NEA is not pushing for banning the giving of free plastic bags.
I was at a neighbourhood bakery and told the counter lady I dont need a bag; she is from China and then she said, one thing that China does better than Singapore is banning plastic bags in all cities.
Also, why is solar panels not use more extensively since the cost is no longer prohibitively high?
