New Recycling Bins Along Orchard Road

New Recycling Bins Along Orchard Road

The recycling bins along Orchard Road have been replaced with new silver-colored metallic bins. If you are a frequent shopper at Orchard Road, you would have noticed the previous recycling bins for paper, metal cans, plastic and glass bottles, shown in the picture below:

The old recycling bins have been placed at various locations along Orchard Road for about seven years, and are prone to pilferage and vandalism. With the new recycling bins, the locked bins and small opening makes it difficult for people to pilfer the recyclables.

Some pictures of the new recycling bin are shown below. Keep a lookout for the bins next time you are at Orchard Road and remember to use them if you have paper, cans and bottles to recycle.

I think somehow the design doesnt tell me immediately which bin is for which item. It usually takes me awhile and maybe with more suitable colours or illustration, it might make the process easiler n faster for ‘recyclers’ to ‘throw and go’. Or is it just me? 🙂

It’s usually blue for paper, yellow for cans, and red for plastic or glass bottles.

Cherie, I agree with you. Readability has to come first.

      Hi aydan and Joel

The recycling bins belong to the National Environment Agency (NEA) and the design is special to Orchard Road. You may wish to contact NEA for further details (www.nea.gov.sg).

I have a question. Does anyone know what to do with batteries(e.g. AA or AAA household batteries)? Can they be recycled or do I throw them into the normal trash bins?

Just asking on behalf of my church at bedok. Do you provide free recycle bins and clearing away when bins are full?

@Daniel – Usually, you have to pay for the recycling collection. You could approach your current waste collector and check whether they provide recycling bins and collection (most of them do). If they don’t, you could check with the collectors at http://app2.nea.gov.sg/topics_collectrade.aspx.

Is this Orchard Road in Singapore? The 2.2 km long street?
